Peet’s Loves Coffee

Peet's coffee on Montgomery

I love coffee. I drink more than I should. I’m not an addict, I mean, I could totally quit if I wanted to, but I don’t.

I drink enough coffee that the economics of getting it by the cup from a barista is impractical. I buy by the pound. That’s why I love Peet’s. They love coffee, too. So every time the grounds run low, I take a walk down to Montgomery street, into Peets, past the line, to the back, where Dave or Brook, or whoever is behind the counter tell me about their beans.

Something stronger than the Ethiopian beans I got last time, but not as strong as an Italian roast? Maybe a blend of pacific and latin american beans. Mmm. These guys can talk about beans for days.

Yah, it sounds like I’m shilling for a corp, but these guys talk coffee like sommeliers. I love it.

Blue Bottle for life. Quite literally too.

I worked in that building in 2001 and 2002, and that branch of Peet’s was my lifeline.

Peet’s is so good. St**b**ks is so bad by comparison.

I second Blue Bottle. What makes them the best is that if you order a vente latte with no foam (or something like that) you’re likely to be laughed at. This coffee spot is not for the coffee- sensitive.

Thanks for the tip on Blue Bottle. I’ll try ordering from them next time.

Oh, man, I’m totally down with Peet’s, but you have to try Blue Bottle and Philz to experience true coffee nirvana.
