Pat yourself on the back….
You are blessed with an amazing public transportation system. I live in Los Angeles, and our pubtrans is a bit… lacking. We have a massive and overly complicated bus system, and we have 4 light rail lines, none of which go as far as they should. You have transit lines that have been in operation for over 100 years… and they are fun. I really love the especially powerful electric motors and gearboxes that make up your cable car lines:
[ok this was made in my hood… but as you can see, it is in operation in yours.]

It is funny. I live in Irvine now and have nothing good to say about almost anything Southern California relative to Northern California. But, given what I was expecting, I was impressed with LA’s transit system. Of course, you have to live and work in like one of 7 precise locations to actually be able to use it, but when you have low expectations, the system comes off as pretty solid. SF’s could and should be much better than it is. It is almost as bad as LA when compared to Toronto, Portland, and Boston.
