Japan Girls Nite this Tuesday

Thanks to some ticket lovin from my Metrobloggin compatriot Jason, I got to see the Suicide Girls Burlesque show on Wednesday. And, yeah, it was a good time. These women are Hugh Hefner’s worst nightmare. I was especially fond of the girl that started out dressed as Hunter S. Thompson and then transmogrified into a carrot-spitting bunny. It was the stuff of strangely erotic nightmares.

The surprise highlight of the evening was the opening band: Tsu Shi Ma Mi Re. The Japanese trio sprang from sugary harmonies to angry thrash and back again, bouncing around the stage like angry, adorable Muppets. In between each song, the lead singer and guitarist chirped, “TankyouverymuchSanFrancisco!”

If you missed them on Wednesday, you’ve got one more chance before they leave town. On Tuesday, November 8, they’re playing “Japan Girls Nite” with two other bands at Studio Z (8pm, $10 cover). Be there.

This band rocked my socks – definitely more fun than you’ll have at 87% of the shows you’d see this year. Go check ’em out. And have a heating pad and neck brace ready because the urge to headbang along with them is great.

    Neurologist might be handy too . . . .

I guess we were all there! It was my first time to the former Kennel Club since it changed hands. I kind of liked the bar island, but it does seem roomier now.

Those spunky little Japanese gals stole the show, IMHO. I would put their genre-hopping sound somewhere between Victims Family and 3rd Grade Teacher, both of whom I really dig. Plus the singer-guitarist was absolutely adorable.
