Back to School

Got an academic itch to scratch? Want to pick up a new skill? Or just a fun way to meet new people?

These are just a few of the reasons why you might consider registering for the fall semester at your local community college. At CCSF, for example, you can study the gearhead arts, and at least pick up enough knowledge to be able to talk to your mechanic. Maybe learn to grok geek. Or perhaps train to become a volunteer cop. There are all sorts of other nifty electives, and some are even offered online. I’ve taken a few classes at City College over the years, and overall I would say the quality has been pretty good. The cost is artificially cheap, because, well, you’re already paying for most of it.

Caveat to auto drivers: While there are no signs posted, parking at that big lot across from the main campus at City College is NOT free. You’ll need either a permit or a day pass from the yellow boxes, otherwise, you’ll find yourself with a notice of requirement to further subsidize MUNI. Motorcycle spaces on the street are plentiful and free, because bikes rule.
