<p>A cycling &#8220;criterium&#8221; event is <a hREF="http://www.usacycling.org/news/user/story.php?id=1162" target="_window">defined by USA Cycling</a> as a multi-lap race on a closed course lasting one to two hours. In San Francisco, they&#8217;ll be making a 1 km loop around Union, Fillmore, Greenwich and Buchanan Streets. That includes the fancy part of Union St. </p>
<p>Streets in the area will be closed from 2:00 pm that day. Parking will be available at Marina Middle School, with the $10 parking fee benefiting school programs. </p>

<p>It&#8217;ll be a hot one today, ladies and gentlemen, and hotter tomorrow, due to that late-summer east-wind thing. In the worst case, wildfires will destroy several thousand acres in the East Bay. In the best case, the only burning will be <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/theta444/2488132201/">in Dolores Park</a> &#8212; sunburning, that is. </p>
<p>If you&#8217;d rather get sunburned standing up than lying down, there&#8217;s <a hREF="http://www.metromintcycling.com/?giro_di_sf" target="_window">bicycle racing in town today</a> as the Giro di San Francisco (which is Italian for &#8220;Tour de San Francisco&#8221;) goes until 4:00 pm. The race&#8217;s epicenter is <a hREF="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&amp;hl=en&amp;geocode=16518035763566326019,37.801392,-122.401596%3B7964486696899351077,37.800272,-122.400166%3B18301991573829792378,37.799461,-122.401764%3B6213864355123643501,37.801410,-122.401600&amp;saddr=Battery+St+%4037.801392,+-122.401596&amp;daddr=Front+St+%4037.800272,+-122.400166+to:Vallejo+St+%4037.799461,+-122.401764+to:37.803181,-122.402544+to:Union+St+%4037.801410,+-122.401600&amp;mra=dpe&amp;mrcr=0&amp;mrsp=3&amp;sz=17&amp;via=1,2,3&amp;doflg=ptm&amp;sll=37.801477,-122.399422&amp;sspn=0.005358,0.009398&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;ll=37.801985,-122.400506&amp;spn=0.010715,0.018797&amp;z=16" target="_window">Levi&#8217;s Plaza</a>.</p>
