Not my exact choice of venue, however you really can’t complain since he is kind enough to play two nights. Dylan shows can always be hit or miss, however his new album (Modern Times) is almost just as good as his last two (maybe even a little more upbeat). The pairing of opener Kings of Leon with Dylan made me scratch my head at first, however, again you really can’t complain. After seeing Kings of Leon multiple times in Nashville (they reside just outside Nashville proper), I can easily say they put on an amazing live show. These shows were in smaller clubs though, so it will be interesting to see if their sound can translate into the larger Civic Auditorium and set the tone for a folk/rock/bluesy night…

But when more than 1/3 of the Wu-Tang Clan is in town and the show isn’t sold out, someone’s got to mention it. Method Man headlines at Mezzanine (Sat. 10/14) along with Inspectah Deck and Masta Killa (all three with new releases out in the past couple of months). Obviously they will each be promoting their new albums, but there are sure to be some Wu-Tang collaborations throughout the night. No offense to Saigon (who was bumped from opening the show only 2 weeks ago), but you really can’t complain about the fortuitous lineup change…

Starting with Foreign Born, out of L.A., I really have a hard time describing their music as I’ve never seen them live. From the few songs I’ve heard here though, I’m pretty impressed. Cold War Kids follow, who are easily one of the best new bands I’ve seen live. After releasing only three EPs and on the verge of releasing their first LP, they’ve already put on a couple (#1 , #2) amazing live shows here in San Francisco. Headlining, and replacing the Futureheads is the Album Leaf (Jimmy LaValle) the third piece to the odd lineup. The Album Leaf is a completely different sound (mostly ambient) so it should be interesting to see how he matches up with his more rockin predecessors.

Now it seems every genre and their mother has a music festival, not only in the U.S. but around the world. A couple smaller festivals are coming up that combine the best and most diverse of today’s new music.

First up is the Download Festival today at Shoreline. The lineup is extremely good especially at the low price of $25!
Main Stage: Beck, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Muse, The Shins, and Rogue Wave
Side Stage: Coheed & Cambria, Kinky
(Unfortunately Wolfmother had to cancel due to a newborn baby)

Coming up in November is the RIOTT festival (11/11/06) with an even more diverse lineup of bands spanning several genres:
The Rapture, Clipse, Metric, Explosions in the Sky, Sage Francis, The Wrens, Diplo, Saul Williams, Asobi Seksu, Girl Talk, etc

I’m still curious to see how they can possibly fit all of this music in one venue (Bill Graham Civic Auditorium) and during one day…

During lunch yesterday in Sausalito, I observed a man throw his bike, guitar and other assorted items into his very small boat (or dingy). He then motored off into the sausalito bay only to return 10 minutes later. He docked the boat and stepped out with the same equipment as before, however with some additional cargo. A dog soon appeared on the dock, as the man downed what looked to be a beer and then threw the can and remaining contents into the boat. The man assembled the rather nice bike and walked it up the dock several feet. He returned to the patient dog and then placed her into a bag which he strapped and secured to his back. Guitar and other bag in hand, he made his way up to his bike out of sight…

This man and dog seem to be ever present in Sausalito and you can catch them most evenings playing guitar and barking for the tourists on the Sausalito ferry landing area. I’m honestly not hip to his overall message, which is made known on his “web page”, however you gotta admire a guy who can play guitar, with a dog (wearing sunglasses) on his lap, and still hold a straight face. This is Peter and Caji, a new breed of evangelism. And as he proclaims to the passers by, “You can find us on the internet, just search for C-A-J-I”. Or, click here. (Peter and Caji appear to be part of the True Vine Broadcasting Network)

author’s note: I am not affiliated with any of the above mentioned groups or people and don’t condone the use of flashing bars or early 90′s textured background images…

Found this ad during my daily commute to Sausalito via the Golden Gate Ferry. Its not the nicest ferry boat I’ve ever been on, however, it could be a nice break in the day, especially if the fog stays clear of the bay:

“The always-popular Lunch for the Office Bunch returns every other Friday beginning August 25 onboard the Golden Gate Sausalito Ferry and Alameda/Oakland Ferry. Jules Broussard, David Landon and Mojo Madness are on tap to play their infectious music this year. So assemble the gang and start the weekend on an upbeat note! Bring your lunch or enjoy a snack from the onboard full bar.”

At first impression, the Green Patrol looks to be a nice service, cleaning up the streets, etc. I watched as they removed the several posted papers from the poles on Columbus Avenue. They then placed each piece of paper in a cardboard box. Once all of the paper was collected, one of the men placed the unclosed box on the sidewalk at the corner of Columbus and Stockton. They then both got in their green truck and moved on down the street. I’m still trying to figure out the logic behind this “caring” system, as the papers were sure to fly out of the box due to the 20mph winds that were in motion that day…

I was a little surprised to find a herd of goats in a small hillside right off of Chestnut Street (Russian Hill). It looked like there were at least 50 of them if not more, just grazing on the grass and hay. They don’t appear to be wild, as there is a fence surrouding the entire area, however I highly doubt they are pets either. If anyone has information regarding these odd goats, let me know…
