Ejection & Rejection: Warriors
I watched the tail end of the game at a pizza slice place in Fisherman’s Wharf. The guy who worked there was trying to explain to me the impact of the defeat, mentally and emotionally, in really broken English. Then he asks me, “Where are you from?” and I had that sad local shame feeling that he couldn’t somehow magically tell- and my dumb questions about the playoffs didn’t help. A muni driver kept popping his head in to check the score on the TV. How sucky would that be to be a basketball fan, on duty during the last few seconds of the game. I hope that a bus load of people weren’t hanging out on Beach while he was checking, though.
So… Jackson, please get off the court in a reasonable amount of time, next time you’re ejected, no matter how lame the call is. Watching you have these histrionics on the court while we’re waiting to wrap up the game just is not fun, and doesn’t help the underdog appeal at all.
I’m enjoying the Charles Barkley roasts going on in the Chron and elsewhere- supposedly he doesn’t like the Bay Area. My reaction to that, and the Conan uproar is: who cares? Baron Davis: still totally rules. Funniest newsbit is Jackson’s quote re: Barkley- the fave 5 will be all junk food “Chuck’s a big eater.”
1 commentConan is here and he’s tossin’ a party!
So as we all know by now, Conan O’Brien is town all week at the Orpheum. So in celebration of Conan’s visit to SF, NBC 11 (WARNING! Link contains audio for those with sleeping children in the room) is hosting a Conan-themed rally in Justin Herman Plaza on Wednesay, May 2nd. It’s a free lunchtime gig (12-1PM) and will be styled after a variety show similar to “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” with guests, music, and other live performances. Currently, performances are scheduled by “Beach Blanket Babylon” and San Francisco Taiko Dojo. The Gavster has proclaimed May 2nd as “Conan O’Brien Day in San Francisco.” Mayor Newsom and Conan may make a special appearance at the event but the emphasis there is “may” so Caveat Emptor. Tickets to the show, as well as other prizes, will be given away. The tickets they are giving away are VIP tickets so you are guaranteed a seat if you win! All the other shows have been overbooked and it’s first coe first seated so if you do have tickets get there early and if you don’t then get your ass over to Justin Herman on Wednesday and win some!
Sara and No Name on Alice radio are giving away tickets during the morning show and NBC 11 News at 11 p.m. every night next week is doing “Conan Catch Phrase” to win tickets. Viewers watch the newscast, listen for the catch phrase and log on to nbc11.com to send them an email with the catch phrase when they hear it. Emailer #11 will win a pair of VIP tickets to the Friday, May 4th show.
Be sure to tune in to check out Conan tooling around our fair city with Bob Sagat in our signature GoCars. Photo credit: Andrew Weinberg/”Late Night”
2 commentsCivic Center welcomes Porta-Conan’s
This week’s tapings of the Conan O’ Brien show at the Orpheum Theater near Civic Center plaza have seen the temporary installation of 15 “porta johns”, or perhaps they are better referred to as “Porta-Conans”.
So far the usual leisurely loiterers and dastardly dealers gathered near the fountain and BART station stairs seem to be enjoying them very much. Crowds are expected to gather each day prior to the taping window of 1:30pm - 5 pm each day.
Word is that the producer of the Late Night Show has arranged for patrol service by three separate, two person patrols from the Tenderloin District of the SFPD. Since a homicide occurred in broad daylight at 4 :16 pm only a block and a half away on Hyde & Golden Gate on Friday April 13th, that’s probably a good idea.
Wonder if this is all part of a new “Conan not Cash” program ?
Either way, San Francisco’s Civic Center’s temporary TV tourists & regularly destitute denizens all say Thanx NBC !

You ever feel like you’re always the last to know about certain happenings? Well, this is probably old news to most of our readers, but since it hasn’t been posted, this might be of interest to all y’all. Conan O’Brian is coming to San Francisco for a week in yet another one of his road trips. This lovely photo on the right is from his photo archive at nbc.com. He’ll be filming at the Orpheum Theatre April 30 to May 4. I am a fan of his self-deprecating sense of humor and have already requested tickets to the show. A friend mentioned he was coming, but it appears that preferential treatment is given to those actually living in the city so be sure to request the tickets sooner rather than later.
2 commentsTonight ! Zolar X & Thor battle in SF Monday Night!
If you are a fan of mythic metallic Norse warriors, or crazed tin foil hat outerspace bred Glam Rock Sci-Fi creepos … maybe you need to board a space age Bart train or plain old Muni bus, taxi or whatever and check this out.
Last night my destiny awaited at The Golden Bull in the O, and tonight the show heads to 12 Galaxies on Mission near 22nd.
You’ll be able to slink in & catch the mighty Thor , the space glam of Zolar X. and likely other stuff too…perhaps even a disease!
Last night I saw Maybe The Craziest Golden Bull Gala Dive Bar Sunday Night Show Biz Extravaganza Awards Cup Of All Time…a musical event perhaps on par with a live performance of Ziggy Stardust battling Conan The Barbarian whilst Capt. Kirk seeks nubile space ho’s on one of his ” tang” seeking benders…
Don’t Miss Out Tonight In SF …It’s like cartoons come to life, but louder! Maybe you just want to drop just $10 & see something beyond memorable, drink cheap beer in a dingy club and rock out with yer space cock or clit out…
This show is all about a freakishly entertaining night of exceeding & leaving behind all that’s wrong in rock & roll these days, which makes this event my pick of the night by far… be there! (or be at home laming out & way into yer I-pod or whatever it is you really care about it…)
Maybe you should attend this awesome event just because you know you don’t have the dough saved up to catch Venom & High On Fire at the corporate rock palace known as The Fillmore this week in SF.
I’m not even gonna go on & on about Thor… buy the DVD and catch the former Mr. USA & Mr. Canada in his triumphant appearance in red , white & blue short shorts doing a Sweet cover on Merv Griffin in 1976. But why should I ramble, a picture is worth at least a thousand beer burps…

I believe that the SF Weekly even mentioned his mythic metal stature not so long ago…or I guess it was just last summer when he played 12 Galaxies previously.
and I could give a rats buttocks about some opening bands we are all destined to miss tonight, so I’m gonna do my best to just annoint ye dear readers to the magic space presence of Zolar X ( some mp3′z included, so get clickin’)…
