Attention Deficit Disco
I need to preface this post by saying that it’s really weird to walk through the Mission and see my own mug shot pasted up on a poster around the ‘hood. But besides seeing scary promo materials of me very drunk and doing my best Natasha Lyonne (who I was channeling at the time), the mugs are promoting Attention Deficit Disco, an incredibly fun event that happens every third Saturday. There’s another one this weekend!
They’re happening now at The Transfer, which used to be a scary gross old bar and now has been taken over and revamped into a really cool neighborhood bar. Locals *actually* go there, and unlike most other bars in the area, there’s usually a very comfy mix of men and women. It’s like how bars used to be back in the early 90s, when there were just lots of different kinds of people and everyone was having fun and no one knew what was going on. However, because it does err on the all-male side it’s my understanding that ADD is intended as a “mixer” — put on by a couple guys who have been on a mission to bring more women into Castro bars. When I went to the last ADD I was still in the gender minority but I had a total blast, until they were tossing me and my booty-shakin’ homo friends out onto the street at closing. I’m sad I’ll be out of town to miss this one; it’s really fun.
ADD: next saturday May 20, The Transfer, 198 Church (@ Market). Give your ears ADD and listen to their podcast (RSS).
