There are only two explanations for this lead story in this morning’s Chronicle:
A. Nothing more important than Muni’s on-time report happened on Monday.
B. They kind of have their heads up their butts.

A. Was there a more important, local story you thought got buried?
I’m glad the Chron has local news on Page 1 (and I wish it was easier to find on their web site). I’ve probably read everything I need to about national/intl events on the national/intl sites (CNN, BBC, etc). Reprinting the same AP report I read 12 hours earlier online doesn’t add much value. Same thing with the local TV news guys that spend 1/2 their time re-reporting on stuff already done (and better) by the national teams.
The MUNI on-time report might seem pedestrian compared to Iraq, but it affects a huge percentage of the paper’s readers, and it’s unlikely they’re going to hear about it anywhere else.

Oh that is so hilarious. Like, Barack visiting wasn’t a big deal? Our 80 degree weather? the Tour of California? hahahahha. OH: a guy stumbling over a corpse in his apartment after he comes back from vacation?? hahaha

I agree that the Obama visit was a big deal, but ultimately it’s just the same old political posturing with little meat. On the other hand, the MUNI story is new info, broad impact, and local. It relates directly to a requirement in a bond measure passed in 1999.
Do you really think a fluff piece on the nice weather is more important? The dead guy in the Haight was interesting, but ultimately only useful for its sensationalism.

The Chronicle is an absolute joke. Unfortunately the news they choose for the front cover is reflective of the priorities of our perpetually navel gazing local populace. Surely nothing else in the world is more important than our muni arrival time!

The best part of the AP story on the bedroom corpse was the detail of the cat’s colors. Cracked me up.

gah! I can’t tell you how many times I come back from a long weekend fearing that I, too, will discover said corpse. And now I have a notion of what the color spectrum would be. ugh, I never should have read that piece….
as for the MUNI piece, I agree with Matt G on the broad impact perception - I think they ran it as the cover story as it’s a hot-button for a wide populus, and bound to get some hands reaching in to scoff at the folly.

Mark, I think the muni piece is definitely relevant news for san franciscans. That doesn’t change my vote for B. though.
