    One more statistic that is important, at least for readers new to, outside of, or not familiar with Northern California: Shasta Dam is 228 miles north of San Francisco, in Shasta County, and thus not exactly a San Francisco tourist attraction. Google map: http://tinyurl.com/6xv35p
