There’s KPIX’s Roberta Gonzalez forecasting a “trof” (sic) of low pressure on this evening’s six o’clock news. Watch it yourself on their site.

    It must happen so often NOAA has it in their glossary: http://www.crh.noaa.gov/glossary.php?word=TROF

    I can’t figure out if it’s common like "nite" or just a screw up.

    I hate "nite" though, so I’m with you on spelling things correctly.

    My lord, it never occurred to me that it might be in common use, even as an abbreviation. Meet you over on Gof Street.

    Think of the grateful tourists if we resigned some streets with translations-for-the-out-of-towners below the real name.

    Come to think of it, we do just that in Chinatown and Japantown, where street signs have an added small placard spelling out the street name phonetically.
