SF Noir: White Girls

SF Noir

Above are the co-founders of the SF Noir festival, Herve Ernest and Brian Gadsden, after the screening of “I’m Through With White Girls.” Being a white girl, I felt a little shanghai’d by my friend who organized the evening, down to being whisked away from the wrap-up party at Otis and dragged to the new bars in the Mission.

The movie is amazing DESPITE the title. The movie is more about guys and their inability to commit- and stereotypes & racially profiling your track record. One great scene is our hero Jay on a date with an Asian woman, and as they talk the other person becomes a series of stereotypes, from a Geisha to Lenny Kravitz. I won’t give away any more scenes. Many in the Q&A with Lia Johnson (the actress in the movie) spoke up that they were very unwilling to come because of the title, “It’s a step back for SF Noir!”- but our SF citizens are so great, they opened their mind to a little wackiness and we all enjoyed a truly funny movie. From the writer who brought you Arrested Development, which explained a lot to me. Fellow attendee turned to us and said: “This is better than more than half the movies I saw at Sundance.” Pretty good recommendation.

"The movie is more about guys and their inability to commit- and stereotypes …"

    Unwitting self-righteous irony.

I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about, so "unwitting" is true.

"The movie is about women and their inability to think straight- and stereotypes …"

    Does that help, sweetie?

Still not getting it - if you did see the movie, feel free to provide your own recap.

I was commenting on the recap here, not the movie.
