Wipeouts on 280

Summer 280 South
I headed south on 280 at 11am and witnessed the results of 2 wipeouts, one near Hillsdale and one near the Serramonte exit, on an offramp. Yikes. Nothing is wrong with going 40 during conditions, but some folks find the need to blaze by, without headlights on, perhaps trying to hydroplane? No idea.

I have been driving my taxi with much care, and I don’t care if they do honk at me. I have seen cars down in ditches, and smashed into the guardrails.

Coming back up around 9PM, I saw a particularly gruesome one near Serramonte *again*. I have to say that for all my bitching about the speedie guys, I did notice a few times a wave of slow cars behind me pacing themselves around 50mph. Still, even going that speed, I swished a bit on some flooded out portions. not fun.

while doing a 2-week dogsitting stint for my sister in Palo Alto a while back, and commuting into SF every day, I witnessed no less that 1 accident per commute leg. All on 280. Spun-out cars, rear-enders, guardrail-benders. I opted to stay in the middle lane at a reasonable 50+/- speed, giving wide berth to all the other vehicles on the road. And lived to tell about it.

Why is it that (some) people have absolutely NO SENSE about driving during slick conditions? It makes me want to smack them upside the head myself!
