Leland Yee "honored to name a bypass" while hyping his role in "Quickly" snitching out Ed Jew (and sparing Speier)

Recently announced 12th District Democratic Congressional candidate Jackie Speier has been spared a potentially nasty race against State Senator Leland Yee who has announced abandoning his plans to run for Tom Lantos’ current Congressional seat. On last Friday, Yee had even announced his legislation to name the currently under re-construction Devil’s Slide tunnel in honor of popular retiring elected official Tom Lantos…

Said the always willing to pat himself on the back Assistant President pro Tempore of the California State Senate from State Senate District 8 “I am honored to be able to author legislation to officially naming this bypass the Tom Lantos Tunnel at Devil’s Slide.”.

In other news from Yee , the Chinese born former head of the S.F School Board and ex-D-4 supe also released information that it was he personally who notified authorities about Ed Jew’s botched “Quickly” extortion scheme.
Although, it is not exactly true, Yee still felt compelled to tell the story as such. In actuality, after talking to Yee, who did nothing, the owner of the Quickly franchises went to the FBI, and Yee cooperated with the investigation.

Perhaps turning in info on Ed Jew, after being asked, was Yee’s form of repentance to D-4 constituents. Afterall it was Yee who also originally brought Ed Jew into the world of city government as a “community liaison” and “campaign coordinator” back in 1996.

While Yee seems to now want recognition as a Mr. Nice Guy, he has had political setbacks of his own to account for possibly abandoning a Congressional run. These foibles, and a clip of Speier’s candidacy announcement in Foster City’s Leo Ryan Park after the jump…

Leland Yee’s political liabilities include not being quite as popular as he’d like to be, and a stunning propensity to blow his own momentum. For ex. a few years back he sponsored a newsworthy bill to stop sales of violent video games, but this backfired when it was ruled unconstitutional and the company he targeted, RockStar Games had to be paid $324,840 in legal fees by the state.

Yee’s political aspirations were previously stunted somewhat by minor scandals including an arrest for shoplifting suntan lotion on vacation in Hawaii in the early 1990’s, and reportedly being stopped a couple times and cautioned by the SFPD for cruising hookers in the Mission. In September of 2007, a KQED report noted someone with a State Senate IP address was awkwardly polishing up Yee’s own wikipedia entries, and adding glowing language about his tireless advocacy on behalf of “children, mental health services, working families, the environment, and civil rights.”

Perhaps Yee, whose anti-video gaming activities would not play big in the tech & gamer heavy demographics of the peninsula simply realized it would be best to give it a rest for now…

Here he is, pictured from his gov’t sponsored website in a scene reminiscent of the film American Gangster, as the boss curries favor in the ‘hood by hoisting turkeys to give to the “poor”.

Uh, maybe he should stick to bypass naming and hooker trolling …

Clip of Jackie Speier announcing her Congressional run after below…

Speier announced Sunday her intention to grab the 12th congressional district seat after Tom Lantos retires. This district encompasses the southwestern corner of San Francisco down to San Mateo, running from Moss Beach in the west to the edge of San Mateo in the east.
