Resignation Hungry Newsom Finally Gets Ed Jew To Resign…Tomorrow??
Just a couple days after inaugurating & congratulating himself on his second term, Gavin Newsom posed with City Attorney Dennis Herrera today and announced the first real “progress” of the mayor’s second term, the supposedly really awesome deal cut with Ed Jew.

In order to finalize the fate of the controversial former supervisor, who’d already been replaced months ago, and officially get his resignation, Newsom & Herrera both dropped their pending cases against Jew. The City Attorney reached an agreement to drop a civil action and Mayor Newsom agreed to drop his charges of ethical misconduct, and Jew agreed to leave office effective Jan 11th. So does this mean he is still the D-4 dude as I write ?
Perhaps, this will allow Newsom more time to focus on planning his upcoming “celebrity” wedding with “consultant” Stanley Gatti and the gang. In other Newsom news, he was recently caught rearranging some transportation committee seats, including axing a bike coalition member and posing for photos with everyone from cab drivers to low level bureaucrats at a city hall cocktail reception.
Jew, is not necessarily on anyone’s party guest list yet, and still faces federal charges from the FBI, and I think DA Kamala Harris has her own particular criminal & perjury bones to pick with the Burlingame based Chinatown flower salesman & taxi medallion holder. Newsom & Herrera are basically saying they are, like, so bored & over Ed already.
The Ed Jew announcement comes on the heels of the decision by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals who issued an emergency stay granting Newsom’s so-called “Healthy City” plan to move forward. This of course is a blow to the opposition to the plan, namely the Golden Gate Restaurant Association. The restaurant owners are aghast that any businesses in SF with 50 to 99 employees immediately begin setting aside an extra $1.17 per hour for mandatory employee health care. Smaller businesses of at least 20 employees must start the same mandate on April 1st. Newsom said at his inauguration that he hopes to cover some 40,000 workers in all.
