Attention, cynical playwrights

You still have time to submit your one act play “in the unique style of David Mamet,” whose 1988 Hollywood satire Speed-the-Plow is playing at American Conservatory Theater through Feb. 3. Your one-act must be no more than three pages long, and fit within one of three categories: rewrite a classic film scene a la Mamet; a scene depicting a Mamet character experiencing a “Hollywood” moment; or Mamet characters placed in “an iconic film moment.”

Sort of like this:

Mamet as Kane

The deadline for the contest is Jan. 11.

In college, the girl next door to me was dating some drama nerds. One night I thought I heard domestic abuse- yelling, silence, hitting, etc.- I’m about to go over and knock on the door, or, heck just burst in, and then I hear:
    "line"
    (pause)
"Wait, I can’t find it. OK."
    (return to yelling/screaming)

    Ugh. They were rehearsing Mamet.
