Stories from the Vallejo Ferry

ferry building morning Chatted with two Vallejo ferry commuters today at the Ferry Building. Thirtysomething woman with blond hair confirmed that they yuck it up on Fridays leaving the city- get a bottle of wine at the Wine Merchant and some cheese at Cowgirl Creamery, and watch the sunset over the Golden Gate Bridge. I mean, what could be better? Fellow from London, who spends half the year in Napa, exclaimed, out of nowhere, “There’s really no city like San Francisco.” But when I prodded him for something specific in his comparison to London, he just looked at me amazed. Like it was obvious. Woman commented on how she’d seen a lot of whales this season, in the waters near Angel Island. The Coast Guard escorts them and the ferry gives them a wide berth. I usually sit at these tables and rarely are folks this chatty. Either it was the storm brewing outside or maybe the ferry being just minutes away.
