Ship hits Bay Bridge
A container ship struck a Bay Bridge tower in heavy fog at 8:30 this morning, the Chronicle is reporting. Photos show a large gash in the ship’s hull but no apparent damage to the bridge tower, the second one west of Yerba Buena Island.
Update the next day: Turns out 58,000 gallons of fuel oil spllied in the crash — not the 140 gallons (!) that were first announced — and the oil is fouling SF beaches.

I wonder with how much tonnage was on that tanker, how well they can navigate through the bridge. Despite there being "the most experienced" bar pilot, I’m sure there’s still room for error.
All it takes is one ASSHOLE to fuck up millions of peoples (not to mention animals) lives!
A catastrophe, and no one started to clean it up for several hours later! Why isn’t there a chemical, etc to be sprayed on that eats the oil? I thought there was such a solution? Why isn’t this city better prepared? Is it because Newsom is Mayor…I suppose so. He won again.I am not happy, but no one had the guts to stand up to him and run against him seriously. What if we have an earthquake? We will be like Hurricane Katrina by the Bay.
It is up to us to take responsibility of ourselves in an earthquake, not our elected leaders. I myself don’t like to be treated like a child, so it’s up to me and my survival skills if the big one hits.
