Pub Trivia Round-up
Checking out various trivia venues, thought I’d post what ones I know about- please feel free to add your favorites in the comments!
- Mondays
- 8 PM Blackthorn just started a Brainstormer trivia, Inner Sunset, 8th & Irving
Probably one of the decent trivia nights I’ve experienced. You get a flow of UCSF braniancs, and locals, which makes it an interesting blend.
- 8 PM Blackthorn just started a Brainstormer trivia, Inner Sunset, 8th & Irving
- 9 PM Mad Dog in the Fog, Lower Haight, Fillmore & Haight. Medium-sized venue, no food if I recall.
When I lived a block away, we used to consider this the creme de la creme of pub trivia’s. To win was enough. Strangely, I’ve heard rumors that lots of cheating goes on. Still, I have the nostalgia of it being a great trivia night.
- 7:30 PM Chieftain. Medium-sized venue, 5th & Howard, Soma.
A group I was in ruled this school, and it still stands out as a great night/time, as well as great food, and easy parking (if your team rolls that way). - 8:30 PM Maggy McGarry’s Grant & Green, North Beach.
I haven’t been- anyone?
- 6:30 PMElephant & Castle Clay at Sansome, downtown, huge venue.
Just missed being in a team last week, which I regret. Seems like a nice, huge venue for this kinda thing. Not sure about the audio. - 8 PM Melt! Columbus & Filbert, North Beach. Very small venue.
This place is so cute, I wanna try it out.
- 8 PM Rogue Ale House, Union & Powell, North Beach,
The time I went, the audio was not so hot. Food’s good. - 9 PM Mad Dog again- Lower Haight, see above.
- 8 PM Pig & Whistle. Medium-sized venue. Near USF (masonic & geary). Easy parking.
Some weekends, you get all your shit done by Sunday night and youjust want to chill in this neighborhood bar. USF undergrads tend to go here, and sometimes it’s crowded, sometimes not. I like the food here- mushrooms are good. The MC has a cute little shimmy he does to each song in that round.

Pig & Whistle used to have a Wednesday night trivia game as well . . .
