Who’s there? Wi fi. Wi fi who?

CalTrain, which a year ago announced a successful test of rail wi-fi and predicted access might be available by the end of 2006, voted this week to reject both of the submitted bids (60% of the way through the column) for the service, putting the project in limbo.

The move comes a week after San Francisco’s municipal wi-fi project was torpedoed by Earthlink pulling out of the deal after announcing plans to slash its workforce and close its S.F. office.
