East Bay Teens Shine In Fresno St Shooting
“I’m A Little Upset At Him That He Did What He Did…”
Read that again ya’ll:
“I’m a little upset at him that he did what he did”
That’s a quote from 19 year old Meosha Chase from Oakland, estranged ex-girlfriend of a 19 year old “criminology major” who shot and killed another 19 year old in a heated dispute over… a Playstation console.
These high school jocks are fine products of Northern California’s educational system that had moved south to attend the higher learning institution known as Fresno State. Here’s the school’s adorable mascot.
Don’t worry Fresno St students, your dreams and aspirations of pitbull like response to life’s many challenges will not be crushed, your classes are still in session…
Your University President John D. Welty promptly issued a press release, that would make the UC Regents proud, and patted himself on the back saying things like
Counseling services are always available on campus to anyone - students, faculty or staff - in need.” and “Our response included relocation to campus of students displaced from their apartments during the police investigation. Sleeping accommodations and food were made available.”
Ohhh, I hope it was pizza ! video gamer college kids love pizza and counseling…

According the University President:
” The University Police Department is confident that Fresno Police Department has the suspect contained and the situation under control.”
That would be great if it were true…
Fresno cops who were talking to the student via cellphone thought for awhile he was still inside University Village Apartments, where he killed one man and wounded two others. Turns out that crafty Jonquel Brooks, well trained in video game chicanery, had eluded the doltish Fresno cops, who must not be up to date in their role playing skills.
The alleged shooter Jonquel Brooks, of Hayward CA, as I write this, is still on the run…
(WHOA…nevermind, he’s turned himself in today…)![]()
What does one expect from a child reared into a world with a name that sounds suspiciously like his mother might have been a fan of this multi purpose cleaner product from Solvex Corp
Anyhow, Is This a Great Country or What?
I salute you both Meosha & Jonquel…you probably made a cute couple at one time.
The Bay Area certainly has reasons to be proud of you both…
If you wish to commend Fresno St, The College Prez, The Cops, The Shooter, or complain about the author’s annoying & snide take on this all too familiar senseless gun tragedy you may do so in the comments, but beware you’ll have to get in line… :)

Trying to be funny? Not happening. Trying to make a point? Not happening there either. Just bag on everyone involved. Makes a real impact.
This is why I can always count on Metroblogging to come up with snide commentary that also shows the ignorance of the poster.
Fresno State U. is part of the CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY SYSTEM not the UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA system, so the “UC Regents” have NOTHING to do with FRESNO STATE.
And the rest of this shit just isn’t funny. People got shot and you’re making jokes that aren’t even any good. Not that joking around about people getting shot is cool, but still. If you’re gonna do it, do it right.
I hope when some anarchist asshole comes to your part of the Mission and shoots up your favorite bike store, your ass gets shot first. Then I can make tacky semi-racial jokes at your expense. Then I can be on fucking Metroblogging and spit on northern California just like fucking Little Prick AKA Mike.
Man, this site has really tanked as of late. The quality of the postings blow–as explified above–and there is virtually nothing insightful revealed on this blog. It’s as if a bunch of tourists from Ohio decided to blog about “Frisco”. Pathetic.
Perhaps it’d be worth considering that the kid might be more than a bit confused after the event, no doubt with media all over her, and what she says might not be pure wisdom. She had no part in the murder, so leave her out of it.
They’ll get the kid, pretty much as soon as he realizes he fscked up his life for good in half a second, and has nowhere to go. That alone is a lesson well learned.
Going on about peoples names makes you sound like a whiny 12-yr old bully. And dude, leave fine pitbulls out of this, that mascot is clearly a bulldog (of the Tex Avery variety).
And they did indeed arrest him.
an informative and enjoyable read. thanks lil mike
I was a mentor to Jonquel, he went to the center that I worked at in Oakland. He has an amazing spirit and had really wanted to be a role model for other young people in Oakland. We talked a lot about how hard he had to work in school and the odds that he was beating being here. He was the only one of his friends to go to college. Many of them tried to bring him down because he had left, they did not understand why he wanted to go to school. I let him know that they were probably jealous that they had not had a similar opportunity and that he had to keep reaching for his dreams so that he could be an example for his peers. He wanted to go back to his Junior High & Elementary school so that he could let them know about the importance of going to college. He had recieved a small scholarship from the center to go to school.
He was having a hard time personally while there, often struggling to get money together to feed himself but never resorting to selling drugs like his peers. He had just lost a friend that he had felt was like a brother this past month. He had been killed in Oakland. He was severely depressed by this. We talked a lot about it but he was heartbroken that he had lost yet another friend. The last time we spoke about a week ago he had said he was still having a very hard time and that his grandmother was in the hospital and he was worried about her.
I am very sad to hear that a young man lost his life, my heart goes out to his family. So I hope that this note does not recieve any backlash, I am speaking knowing Jonquel and so my heart understandly goes out to him as well.
He was trying to make a different life for himself and I had hoped that years from now his leadership skills could have shown through as beacon of hope for youth in Oakland and he could be doing what he had dreamed.
We don’t know what REALLY happened so we will see what happens when the case unfolds.
Jacky
I appreciate your obviously heart felt comment left here after the obviously facetious remarks I made yesterday.
I was drawn to the absurdity I saw around the edges of the human tradgedy that’s inherent here. I suppose I meant more to obnoxiously point out some overall failures of values and focus in youth today, and a self absorbed society that wants to brush everything off as “no big deal”, “‘we’ve got it covered”… even when we don’t.
You sound like a seriously caring and concerned person, and at the time I wrote my piece yesterday, it was hard to imagine someone personally involved like yourself would ever read my comments.
I appreciate you, unlike other self appointed arbiters of taste, actually restraining from getting into semantics, calling me a “semi-racist” ( whatever that is ), or commenting righteously at my lack of proper gravitas as well.
One can easily see that this terrible and likely complex incident has already tainted & ruined too many lives for years to come, so, not being personally involved, I chose to point and laugh rather than cry…
It’s sad… and we all probably wish it wasn’t…and that seems obvious, and sad is not not something I am normally drawn to “blog” about.
I of course, can empathize with all the varied parties involved, whether it be law enforcement, parents, or even the sadly distracted young parties battling over a childish toy that created this mess. I see the poor choices, poverty and lack of hope & options for today’s minority youth in particular, and I spend a lot of time in East Oakland and have been involved with many events & fundraising for youth in Hunter’s Point.
I don’t have the balls nor I feel proper backround to be a solid minority youth mentor, and like many people am probably more afraid of so called “kids today” than involved with their lives…
I was a troubled teen as well, but I never owned a gun,
…and perhaps that’s why I am still here making snide comments about those that do.
I am Meosha’s aunt, and I take great exception to you using any of this as some kind of fuel for your sick sense of humor! You do not know my niece at all, the fact that she graduated a 4.0 student, and has a very good head on her shoulders!!! Were you there when she made this comment, to see her inflections, hurt, or sarcasm?!! Context is everything! Do you know how shy she is, and, that although she is an athlete, she is not some “dumb jock”, but simply unable to express herself as she would like at times, especially when highly stressed? SOMEONE DIED!!!! UM, hello, who’s the JACKASS?!! At least my niece recognized that there was something not quite right with this guy and broke it off quite awhile ago! Watch who you are using for your simple minded blogfest. My girl has lots of family, and we are disgusted by your nasty, vicious commentary!!
First Off, Yall got my Meosha and Jonquel Fucked’ up.. First off she is My Bestfriend and He is my brother.. She don’t hav nothing to do with what happen that night between Jonquel and them other dudes. How would you feel if a 3-4 people came to your door trying to accuse u of theif and beat you up? In your residence? You gon pick up the next thing that you see. rather it’s a gun, knife bat, or even the damn lamp next to you.. You can’t just go to someone’s house and expect the best.. You always expect the worst.. The the number 2 rule in the hood besides not snitchn.. if you show up at some ones door expect the worst.. In my eyes they all should of got the bizness.. They luck it was just one.. I hav no sympathy for none of them. It’s good tho we gone hold my brother down. cause he innocent of murder, guilty of self defense.. And he aint supose to fear nobody but god.. Therfore keep Meosha name out of ya mouth cause all she did was date him.. They aint Bonnie and Clyde and she didn’t pull no trigger!!! FREE MAH BRUH QUEL..
I’m sorry but I grew up in a “tough neighborhood” in Chicago. My family was poor and I am a high school dropout. These excuses are b.s. No one involved in this crime was a child. They were all adults. I learned early in life that stupid decisions are usually made by stupid people. Sure, everyone at some point in life finds themselves in a precarious situation. A person has many choices to make in life. A person also chooses their friends. Choose wisely, that’s what adults do.
It’s defenseless what Meosha Chase’s ex-boyfriend did. I am appaled that anyone is concerned at all about her and her murderer boyfriend. Meosha is after all an adult woman. She should think like one. She made a public comment and therefore is subject to the public’s criticism. Why should I feel bad for her? She is not a victim.
