Biking in SoMa
I’m headed back to LA today so I’ll stop pestering your NorCalers with my crap, but will leave you with this request for advice about bike friendly hotels in SoMa. Oh his blog, Joi asks:
“Anyone know of a good bike shop in the South of Market area? I’m in SF a few times a month these days and I think it would make sense for me to bike around instead of cab for those out-of-walking-distance locations.
Also, I just called the W Hotel and they said I couldn’t store my bike there even though I practically live there. Stupid hotel. Anyone know of a hotel that’s around the scale of the W Hotel that might be more friendly?”

Depending on when you need your bike you can lock it in the BART station, or in same of the SF city garages.
Be careful in soma, lots of bike thieves are prowling the streets. get a u-lock and a cable if you are going to leave it for a while un attended.
The W is fucked. I have stayed at the Argent, Parc 55, Hilton, and the Stanford Court- and all of them offered to store my bike in the luggage check room. Sometimes I accepted, but I usually just kept it in my room. They were all friendly, asking me about the bike cuz it is a fixed-gear. If you stay at the W, wheel the pony in there, take it up to your room, and tell them to take a hike with their turned up noses!!
boy, the more I think about it, that really sucks. Hosers. Now there is a word that has gone out of style, even in Canada.
