Quick Coffee Shop Observation

So it’s only about a year since SF was brought to a screeching halt because of the panic over people getting their laptops swiped at coffee shops and today I’ve counted no less than 10 people get up and leave their laptops completely unattended for 10-15 minutes while they go to the bathroom, place orders, go outside to talk on the phone, etc. It’s kinda nuts actually, do these people never learn? Of course none of those laptops were stolen so maybe I’m the dumb ass.

Oh, you have gotten one of the new invisible force field laptop locks yet?

I’m still amazed myself…it’s nuts! Even in so-called “respectable” places I’ve had a couple of near misses with my stupid cell phone…

Dorks. Who DOES that? Before I bought a lock, I’d deputize someone – still taking a stupid chance, but I studied in student-heavy areas and placed faith in the bond-among-students.

But never in a million years would I have just left it sitting on its lonesome somewhere.

I think it’s that balancing act of: “do I trust the person next to me to watch my laptop while I take a trip to the b-room” and “Will someone grab my seat/chair at Ritual when I take my computer into the potty?” and “Will people think I’ll looking up pr0n if I take my laptop into the bathroom…” ever the quandry.
