Muni Stories: March Madness

10 Townsend Apologies MUNI fanatics- this is the 10, not the 2 buses mentioned in this article. And isn’t it amazing Stanford got in?

So I’m chatting with a coworker at lunch, who got the nickname ‘The Karate Kid’ because of a certain kicking action and a popped out bus window. He said he didn’t even want to do that- he just wanted to let the bus driver know he was there. His hands were full with groceries, and the bus was stopped at a red light. Note- he is expecting a bill in the mail.

Then, my sister with 2 kids, one sitting on her lap, was on the 30 Stockton heading to Caltrain through Chinatown Saturday, and an elderly woman with a cane tripped over one of sis’ bags in the walkway. that’s right, you already guessed it- nobody helped the elderly, crippled woman get up from the floor of the bus. I guess my sister ended up yelling at a nearby guy to help this lady. Ah, bus stories.

i suppose your sis , who caused this incident by blocking the aisle, is excused from helping the elderly because she is a “breeder”?

One of the most dangerous things anyone, but esp. elderly people, can do on a bus is try and walk down the aisle when the bus is about to start up or come to a stop (most often a very sudden stop)

On many buses with their crappy suspensions, the bus will lurch from forward to back and side to side and make it hard for anyone, but esp. elderly citizens, to navigate. More than once I’ve seen someone fall over on a crowded bus and it sucks.

    Putting quotes around “breeder”- why?

When she told me the story- I think she added that she was trying to reach the woman but had a child on her lap.

i AM A DISABLED MAN WHO SHOPS AT TRADER JOE’S ON MASONIC.WHILE I TRY TO GET A CAB HOME,IT IS VERY HARD ,DUE TO THE PARKING SITUATION THERE..AND I HAVE TO TAKE MUNI HOME WITH ABOUT 4 BAGS AFTER WAITING FOR AN HOUR FOR A CAB.I TOO HAVE TROUBLE WITH MUNI AND GETTING A SEAT,AND STANDING JUST TO GET OFF,AND HAVE BEEN JAMMED IN THE DOORS BY UNOBSERVIANT DRIVERS,WHO CLOSE THEM QUICKLY AND STOP AND START THE BUS CREATING A JERKY MOTION THAT MAKES IT NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO HOLD ON IF YOU HAVE PACKAGES,A CANE,ETC.I TRY TO GET CABS,BUT LIKE I SAID,THEY DON’T SHOW UP MOST OF THE TIME,IT IS LIKE IT WAS BEFORE.NO ONE CARES FOR SENIORS AND DISABLED WHO DEPEND ON MUNI AND TAXI’S TO GET AROUND..AND ON MUNI,THE PROBLEM IS NO ONE GETS UP FOR SENIORS OR DISABLED ANYMORE.THE FRONT SEATS ARE BEING TAKEN UP BY CHILDREN,AND SPANISH,CHINESE CHILDREN AND NANNIES THESE DAYS! tHEY REFUSE TO READ THE SIGNS ABOVE THEIR HEADS..AND MOVE. I SHOW THEM MY DISABLED PASS AND GET A SEAT WHEN I REALLY NEED ONE RIGHT AWAY,I TRY TO WAIT FOR A BUS ON WHICH I WILL GET ONE,BUT THE BUSES THESE DAYS ARE MORE AND MORE CROWDED,AND ARE NOT COMING AS SCHEDULED.THEN THERE ARE BOOM BOXES GOING IN THE BACK OF THE BUSES,AND PEOPLE STILL GAINING ENTRANCE BY THOSE BACK DOORS,AND MUNI IS LOSING MONEY.MUNI SHOULD HAVE A PRIVATE POLICE PATROL TO RIDE ON THE BUSES AND WRITE TICKETS TO OFFENDERS WHO SIT IN DISABLED SEATS WITHOUT LICENSE,AND ALSO THOSE WHO ENTER BY THE BACK OF THE BUS,PLAY MUSIC,EAT,ETC. THEY SHOULD BE ON EVERY BUS! THEN MUNI WILL HAVE FUNDS TO IMPROVE SERVICE AND MAINTAIN THE BUSES.THEN TOO,MUNI WILL BE ABLE TO TRAIN THE DRIVERS ON COURTESY AND CUSTOMER SERVICE,SAFETY,AND PERFORMANCE.
