Catch a wave and you’re sittin’ on top of the world

One day after a front-page story on how modern-day web entrepreneurs love working in cafes, the Chronicle published a big story on how easy it is to spy on wi-fi networks.

Nothing says both stories can’t be true. But strangely, they were by the same reporter. Doesn’t it seem a little weird that he would be presenting this utopian world one day and a techno-scare the next? Not a single word in the first story about security issues.

My favorite do-it-in-a-cafe story is still this Chronicle piece from a year ago about the Dante Club, a group of Mission High School students who meet in a nearby cafe on Saturday morning to go through Dante’s Divine Comedy line by line with a dedicated teacher.

OK now I’m embarassed that I read the article- but he did comment that Niall Kennedy likes the silicon valley ritual place becuase there’s WEP encryption options- so in a way his research for the other story bled over into the cafe one.

Also, can I just say that JANE did a great little bit on cute boys in san jose cafes. I’m just wondering why I wasn’t born like 10 years or so later!!
