Sunny Sunday at the Wharf
First, overheard:
“I want you to tell everyone that I am going to personally kill you.” Man, with an eau de homeless about him, into a cell phone, walking past me, and another woman with a stroller. I turned to her and we exchanged a horrified look.
The weather was amazing- t-shirt weather. Stopped in the smallest Starbucks ever- well minus that tiny hole in the wall on Sutter at Market- at the Hyde St. turnaround. Two Norwegian journalists were chatting with a tourist, neither of them had a big opinion about the Gavin affair (overheard).
More random observations…
Blazing Trails was making a booming business this afternoon: I counted about 30 folks on bikes nearly colliding with pedestrians at Aquatic Park.
Afro-jazz at the the Cannery Courtyard- thought I recognized a friend but he was gone by the time I finished my run. Their line-up is here.
Lots of fisherman on the pier. A huge Hanjin container ship was coasting by- ten times larger than the QM2, it seems.
Pleasure yachts were heeling pretty intensely- about 10 or so yachts were out under the bridge.
From Aquatic Park today, Coit Tower looked grey, it looks really white from my roof, though.
A small child in an electric car was buzzing people on the pier.
Lots of the benches on that park between Beach and Jefferson were full of (gasp!) tourists and non-homeless people. That’s one of the first times I’ve seen the park like this.
I like Aquatic Park & that area because it’s closeby, it’s got gorgeous views, and tourists are happy. They walk around smiling, spending money freely, on vacation, with dorky t-shirts.
When looking up the Courtyard schedule, I came across the fact that Alioto Fish Co. has a behind-the-scenes tours every Monday at 10am.

I love Aquatic Park, especially late at night — sometimes go there after coming out of a concert or a performance, and walk the pier around midnight. There are always a few fishermen about and it feels very safe.
