New solar parking meters in Redwood City
I almost crashed the car when I saw these big solar-powered parking meter things on Jefferson Ave. in Redwood City. They are huge — at least six feet tall — and gleaming.
Redwood City’s parking page hasn’t been updated yet to mention them, so I don’t know anything about them — except what’s on a big flier pasted on each meter, pictured after the jump. Among other things, it says you will be able to “pay with your cell phone.”
The meters have this temporary note pasted on them:
This is nothing new. I saw these solar parking meters in Toronto and Vancouver years ago. The Canadian machines accepts credit cards as well. It will print a receipt then you would put it facing up in the dashboard with the payment time and the expiration time. I think this is the way to go in overall ease and convenience.

but, the meters seems ok, i guess. i’d prefer no meters at all – at least for scooters.
