CalTrans’ $2 million blunder

CalTrans finished 17 brand-new toll booths on the new Benicia-Martinez Bridge last spring at a cost of $1 million. That CalTrans page describes:

Construction of a new 17-booth toll plaza — including two carpool bypass lanes and accommodation for electronic toll collection — as well as an administration building at the southern approach to the new bridge in Contra Costa County…

Today, they began tearing down eight of the new, never-used toll booths, because the Metropolitan Transportation Commission wants to convert that area of the toll plaza to FasTrak lanes.

Cost: another $1.1 million.
