Shopping for Panettone
Walking up Columbus a few times this week, I kept seeing the pretty stacked panettone in the Molinari delicatessen windows. I realized that’d be a good generic household gift for a few families. Finally got up the energy today, but Molinari’s is closed on Sundays so I headed over to the Victoria Bakery on an off chance that they’d have it. Well, not only that but there were many types of panettone. There’s an espresso bar there too, and it’s the in spot for Italian ladies of a certain age, I found, and now I know, when I see the old Italian guys at Puccini, that their wives are over at the bakery! Haven’t had the panettone yet, as it’s a gift. A Chinese tourist couple and I were comparing the boxes, but since the ingredients were in Italian, it wasn’ t much use. I tried some other baked goods. The apricot cookies- two shortbreads with a layer of apricot in between and a heart cutout- were mild and sweet. The almond tart had a nice spot of cherry inside.
