$16 million one-year deal for Bonds
Tonight the Giants and Barry Bonds agreed to a one-year $16 million contract for next year, ending speculation about whether team management had the stomach for his attitude, aging legs, and performance-enhancement problems. Apparently, they do.
Rumors were Bonds was asking $18 million and the Giants were offering twelve. Somehow I’m not surprised at all that the team wound up agreeing to an amount much closer to the asking price.
So let’s see — does this team have anybody who is going to hit even .290, much less .300 this year?
Here’s my prediction for the starting lineup:
1. Dave Roberts, cf
2. Randy Winn, rf
3. Omar Visquel, ss
4. Barry Bonds, lf
5. Ray Durham, 2b
6. Pedro Feliz, 3b
7. Rich Aurilia, 1b
8. Bengie Molina, c
Not a .290 hitter among them — maybe Durham.
Enjoy the springtime, because come June, it’ll all be downhill.

It’s barely a week into December and my eyes are already glazed looking at the Giants’ lineup?
No doubt, there are some decent players there, but Barry’s $16 mil paycheck pretty much kills off their World Series hopes.
Oh well, maybe the Raiders will do better next year, too.
Durham has been a .290 hitter the last two seasons.
But your point still stands, because the Giants still suck. I guess they want to make sure Bonds breaks Aaron’s record in a Giants uniform.
Personally, if I were a Giants fan, I would want a different uniform to be sullied by Bonds.
