Pet Noir launch
Last night I went to the launch of Pet Noir, a comix anthology of stories of true pet crimes (like the Marina District dog mauling case and the infamous San Jose airport traffic poodle toss) edited by Shannon O’Leary (pictured on the right) and featuring artists:
MariNaomi (pictured at left) plus Andy Ristaino, Lev Yilmaz, Trevor Alixopolous, John Isaacson, August Bournique, Ben Claassen III, Bitter Pie, Fly, Fred Einaudi, Jen Feinberg, Joan Reilly, N8 Van Dyke, Paul Musso, Peter Conrad, Ric Carrasquillo and O’Leary herself.
The party was a nice opportunity to visit the Cartoon Art Museum on Mission St. around the corner from SFMOMA.
The surprisingly extensive space has several exhibits hanging, including a Peanuts holiday-themed exhibit and a bunch of single-panel drawings by artists whose work is repeatedly printed in the New Yorker that were nevertheless rejected by the New Yorker. In the case of the latter exhibit, you can look at most of the drawings and say, “Huh, I guess that’s not that funny.” Many of them were on the tasteless side, such as a drawing of an old woman looking into a medicine cabinet and saying “Honey, did you use all the dental floss?” while in the background you can see her husband has hung himself with it.
Anyway, back to Pet Noir and editor Shannon O’Leary. She’s totally hip to the scene. Read a nice interview with Shannon on SFist.
