Bay Trail at Millbrae tidal gate
I was on my way to the airport realizing it was 20 minutes too early to pick up my family, so I pulled off 101 to drive along Bayshore, and parked illegally at the end of the Bay Trail, hopping out to read this informative sign about the “tidal gate” which as far as I can tell is a big old storm sewer outlet. (You can park legally at the Marriot parking lot for free in a few places and if they’re full, for a few bucks in their main lot.)
The marsh was brown and gold and blue and lonely. There were ducks amid the rusty-grey pipes, chain links, barbed wire. If you looked in particular directions you could almost pretend it was a wild place, in between airplanes.
