Leavin’ on a jet plane

Giants outfielders Steve Finley and Moises Alou — two-thirds of the oldest outfield in baseball history — will not be with the team next year, Bruce Jenkins wrote two weeks ago. And speculation is rife about Barry Bonds possibly going to the A’s, whom Frank Thomas fled for the White Sox.

Current speculation centers around Carlos Lee, a slugging but tiring first baseman, and legitimate mid-career star Juan Pierre, an outfielder with World Series experience who could form the centerpiece of a new outfield.

Meanwhile, fans of the Giants of four or five years ago — when they last went to the World Series — will care that third baseman Bill Mueller is retiring and taking a front-office job with… the Dodgers. And I still can’t figure out whether J.T. Snow has retired or what.

Oh, and did you catch that Giants trainer Stan Conte, who worked for the team for 15 years, also boogied off to L.A.?
