Crime Week Wrap-up, Central District
Last night over dinner some friends were discussing favorite police blotter stories. Mine, from Cupertino, was, “toss pillow stolen from rec room.” One woman discovered her husband in one, “Long haired type, sitting in the ivy, with running shoes.” She admitted he was the only long-haired type in Piedmont (at the time). And I guess that’s a crime, taking a break, in Piedmont. This week’s Central District wrap-up (downtown, North Beach, Fisherman’s Wharf) includes 2 noteworthy crimes, and 1 that I witnessed that wasn’t reported! First, torn between two evils…
On 11/09/06 at 10 PM Officers Jesse Heredia and Alane Baca, along with Nico Discenza and Paul Doherty cornered an auto booster in the parking garage at Polk and Northpoint Streets. The suspect denied that he broke into the vehicle that he was found rummaging through; instead he told officers that he went into the garage “just to smoke some crack.”
Then, the suspects take an unusual exit route:
The building was locked down with a perimeter and the Officers searched the building with the help of K-9 Officer Liddicoet and her dog. Officer Worrell searched a side entrance and found 2 suspects on a ledge outside a 5th story window. The suspects were found to be in possession of a large key ring to the office building that was reported the previous day. The suspects were booked for 2nd degree Burglary.
Finally, at Rye last weekend I witnessed a bar fight over who was next in line for the pool table! Best moment was when a young, strapping woman took one guy in a headlock to protect another woman that unfortunately got caught in the middle of the fight.
Quoted segments are from Captain Dudley’s central district email. You too can read your district’s blotter. Go to their site, figure out which district you’re on (view the PDF to find this). Then click on your district on the left and look for “newsletter” instructions. CrimeMaps is sorely out of date.
