Oakland’s Yiyun Li rising

yiyunli.jpgOakland author Yiyun Li, whose debut short story collection A Thousand Years of Good Prayers has gotten a lot of attention, is on the short list for the Guardian First Book Award (thanks, Galleycat).

In addition to the attention for her book, Li has become something of a cause celebre in the literary world for her problems getting a visa to stay in the U.S. Li currently teaches at Mills College in Oakland.
