Tonight: Matt Gonzalez & Nirvana bassist run mouths for Instant Runoff Voting
Former SF Board of Supervisors President Matt Gonzalez hosts an informal fundraiser at his office this evening featuring former Nirvana bassist Krist Novaselic. From this downtown SF location they are attempting to raise awareness & some funds for Oakland’s Measure O , which would enable instant run off voting in Alameda county races.

Novoselic has basically renounced music making since his last few projects met with abject disinterest in the marketplace and headed into activism, while Gonzalez has established a private law practice focused on public interest law with his partner and old roommate Whitney Leigh. They opened their downtown office last year, at Shaw Alley near Minna Street Between 1st and 2nd Streets, A block from the TransBay Bus terminal.
Oakland voters will have a chance to vote on Measure O this November, making them potentially the next Bay Area city after San Francisco to enable Instant Runoff Voting. In addition to Oakland, Instant Runoff Voting is also on the ballot next month in Davis, CA, Minneapolis, and Tacoma, WA.
No word on what your donation at the event entitles you to, but Gonzalez is known to surround himself with beautiful women, artists & poets and shows an ability to enjoy a Guiness or two, as seen here with the late Joe Strummer at Murios Trophy Room. As for his partner Whitney, heck he’s also always down for a good time.
