Anti-consumer manifestations

When you see a shoe this loved and repaired (as I did at Litcrawl the other night) you know it’s from political conviction, not from actual need, at least in this city. The care of this shoe goes way beyond the call of duty of patching a rip or casual mending.

Does this shoe seem particularly San Francisco-y to you? Or just the shoe of a particular kind of anti-consumer punk culture? At the least, I’d call it very west-coast.

I blogged it straight from Flickr and it’s the default template. I think you can go into the template and see how they have it set up!

Looks like old-time VANS. There’s just no throwing those out. Ever. It’s not so much a philosophical decision as a religious one! [wink]

If I remember right from high school, vans had that ability to stay together despite the weather, sport, or… really any acts of g-d.
