Software vendor’s show to close SOMA streets for 9 days

I was floored when I heard the report on KCBS radio this morning — the city will close Howard Street between 3rd and 4th for nine days around the Oracle OpenWorld show this month.
The closures start on Thursday, Oct. 19 and last through Saturday, Oct. 28.
The street will be closed so the show organizers can build a huge tent stretching across the street between the main doors of Moscone Center and the Yerba Buena Center.
The convention brings together employees and customers of Oracle, the world’s largest database manufacturer, and other companies whose products work with the database. According to the KCBS story, the event brings millions of dollars to the city’s economy.
Mayor Gavin Newsom is quoted as admitting the unprecedented street closure is “audacious” but is likely to be repeated unless “everyone in San Francisco says ‘I’m ready to leave, I quit, I’m getting rid of the mayor, the Board of Supervisors’.”
The on-air version of KCBS’ story ended with the reporter asking: “Are you listening, Apple?”
Great.

LOL,I think Larry Ellison and Gavin Newson have been playing way too much monopoly.
–or the old version of SIM, where you crunch around city blocks and roads.
How do we file a formal complaint with the city of SF/Newson??
Although this Oracle event is bringing in “a lot” of money…the bigger picture is that EVERYONE’s scheduling will be changed because of this. Sadly it comes down to $$ again. Shows that for a price, anyone can be bought. Even Mayor Newson.
