The guide to after-hours eateries in San Francisco

The list of restaurants and their times.

I just found this while poking around on del.ici.ous. It’s a pretty great resource for post-bar or post-event or post-[redacted] snacking. I’ve been to many, if not all, places on this list. And often it seems that I can’t recall anything that happened at the bar, but I remember what happened after. I remember what was eaten, who was there. I remember a friend’s friend saying that all the men he knew in SF were bottoms. I remember the oddness of watching “Gladiator” alone at 1am while eating eggs.

Maybe it’s at these quiet moments, when The Specials’ “Friday Night, Saturday Morning” is playing on the soundtrack in your soul, that the hippocampus gets fired up and memories really get made.

I remember taking friends to Orphan Andy’s after their plane was delayed for hours and hours and they didn’t get in until after midnight. I remember when I first moved here and worked the closing shift in the Book Mines, going to the bizarre Video Diner and reading and watching newly released DVDs until 3am. I remember screaming myself hoarse at Do Re Mi Karaoke, drinking so much whiskey that my ancestors in County Cork stood up and cheered and then slowly returning to reality over pancakes at It’s Tops.

In short, I remember the after-hour eateries. With the list above you can too.
