Barry has surgery, is fine with sitting next year
According to a MLB.com article, erstwhile Giants left fielder Barry Bonds had some minor elbow surgery Monday — one day after the end of the season — cheerfully telling a reporter that the bone chips in his elbow hadn’t bothered him because “I was swinging (the bat) with one hand.”
Bonds also called managing partner Peter Magowan’s comments earlier this week “nasty,” saying “He wants me to take a pay cut. Well, that’s OK. I don’t have to play baseball anymore, brother. I’ll be glad to stay home. I’m free. I feel very free.”

Magowan had said the Giants would have a new philosophy next year and would not build the team around Bonds. According to the Chronicle story, the team “will re-sign Bonds only if (General manager Brian) Sabean determines he can help the team win — not to sell tickets or so Bonds can chase the all-time home-run record with the Giants.”

Let the man be free, so the Giants free up some money for the future. Thanks, Barry, for the memories, but bon voyage.
