Coffee at the Suicide Cafe

I was downtown today so stopped in at the “suicide cafe” for a soy latte. A couple years ago when I was working at the SOMA Good Vibes offices, we used to go to this cafe in the San Francisco Center all the time for coffee. One day, some guy rode the escalators all the way to the top, and jumped. Then he got up, rode the escalators up again, and jumped a second time. On the second landing, he hit his head on the espresso machine. So we started calling it the suicide cafe.

Here’s an old article about it. As you can see in the above photo I took today, they still use the espresso machine.

hmmm.. apparently he didn’t leap from the top - his highest free-fall was about 26 ft (not that it isn’t still shocking, but that explains why he managed to survive it at all.)

At least I refrained from commenting that the prices at the mall make me feel like jumping, too, sometimes. [wink]

ah, thanks for the correction. I wasn’t there but it’s funny how I could have been, so I just remember “jumper”, and every time I get coffee I look all the way up and think… look out!

I refrained from saying that if I’d stayed at Good Vibes… espresso machine kisses, baby. ;)

LOL, that is really bad luck, you get in a bad situattion so you try to kill your self only to feel the shame of the failure and have to try again.

Wow! You can even see the dent in the espresso machine. Ick!
