Sutro Tower neighbors miffed at changes
People who live near Sutro Tower — the enormous Space-Age prong atop Mt. Sutro that hosts all manner of antennae for everyone from radio and TV broadcasters to government agencies — are upset at proposed changes to some of the existing antennae. It’s not that they like them they way they are, it’s that they want to be consulted.
Since Sutro Tower was put up only 32 years ago, it’s possible that some folks lliving nearby moved in before its erection. But I’d like to know how many of the ones now protesting are included in that category.
For anybody who moved into the neighborhood in the last 32 years — hey, it’s 970 feet tall! Didn’t you see it??

demolish it!!!
NIMBYs, gotta love em, there’s no kind of progress they won’t try to stop.
Check the history of the Tower and you’ll find a web of illegal expansion and add ons to the tower, and some really crooked dealings at City Hall. Attorney Christine Linnenbach uncovered some really nasty stuff a few years ago. Check it out and you’ll see this is not the usual BS NIMBY stuff we all hate. There are legitimate concerns, esp. with the lack of safety of the Tower in a quake since they’ve bolted on so much stuff since it was built.
