Anyone know what these metal hooks embedded in the curb are for? I saw these last week on Rose St. in Hayes Valley. The were all along the street, approximate 8 feet between each of them.
For tying up your horse, perhaps?

Probably from early 1900’s, carriage and horse.

Those are for pedestrians to hang onto in case the gravity gets turned off.

Yeah I think serve the same purpose as the horse-head posts on Leidesdorff, it’s for tethering your horse. I can’t find anything online about this.

I hate to be boring, especially with the threat of the gravity being turned off, but maybe they are for tying up something slightly smaller than a horse. Perhaps a dog.

Maybe they’re there to make us ask why they’re there… I’m so Philosophy 101.

They’re gymnastics rings for my gerbil. Gotta keep the little bugger in shape.
