I've found that attaching an external antenna really does wonders when using your phone indoors. Kudos to AT&T for continuing to pay for having service underground downtown, but if I'm coming home from the Embarcadero, the length of the trip until we pass Civic Center is only just too short to get anything done. I don't know if there are any in the East Bay. They pay to have their transponders down there, so it could change at any time. Yes, I have heard many times that T-Mobile is among the worst.
