ddtv.jpgAlthough I’ve lived in the Bay Area for most of my life, I’ve been unaware of the public access show Dee Dee TV, which has been on the air for 11 years. Dee Dee TV was voted into SF Weekly’s Best of SF as “Best Outrageous Television Lifestyle in the Bay Area”… how did I not know of this show before?

I happened to catch the show on channel 29 the other week, when we had some friends visiting from out of town and we were idly looking for something to entertain us. Dee Dee TV was it!

A juxtposition of video, animation (seemingly created on something akin to MS Paint), music, fashion and interviews, DDTV had a lot to offer. We met “The B’s” (audio NSFW), a stick figure couple with some serious relationship problems. We learned some S&M tips from Freaky Daddy, who gladly shared his personal collection of paddles and whips on air. We were encouraged by Dee Dee’s empowering, feminist messages sprinkled throughout her show.

You can find a good collection of DDTV videos on YouTube. Oh, and Dee Dee is also on MySpace, heh.

Dee Dee TV airs on Fridays at 11 PM, on cable channel 29.

A city I once lived in boasted an infamous local who bought an hour of public television every sunday evening, just so he could parade around nude. At least DeeDee and Freaky Daddy are making it – uh, educational, at least in some sense? hah!
