Halloween is on…sort of

Halloween in the Castro 2005It looks like Halloween in the Castro will continue this year after all. There was talk of it being cancelled, but Gavin Newsom announced that it will go on, only smaller. How are they going to pull that one off? Make it so difficult to get in or so not worth going to that people won’t bother?

Last year was my first year experiencing Halloween in the Castro. I loved the friendliness of everyone there and the general cheeriness of the crowd. We all took pictures of great costumes, ran into friends, and generally amused ourselves walking up and down the streets. But I do remember it getting too crowded later in the night, and a fight breaking out. I really hope that the city is somehow able to preserve the merriment of the early evening without the craziness that happened later in the night. Not an easy thing to do.
