Asleep at the Wheel

Got this in a chat today from Jennifer Tharp. I hooked her up with viewing her neighborhood’s weekly crime bulletin, and this gem is just too good:

” 5:50 p.m. Sergeants Java and McNaughton found a man asleep behind the steering wheel of a car that was blocking the traffic lane of a freewayoff-ramp at Seventh and Bryant Streets. The South San Francisco man awoke and sped away. Officer Salazar followed the man onto the Bay Bridge and into Oakland where the man abandoned his car and fled into a residential backyard. Oakland police officers assisted Officer Salazar in arresting the man. He was wanted by the California Department of Corrections forviolating his parole. The CHP took over the case and took custody of the perpetrator.”

She’s in Southern Precinct. Thanks, SFPD, for sending this out. Good to know what’s going on in the hood.

They have a Sergeant Java?? What, do they also have a Captain Doughnut?

Several years ago when I was living on Folsom at 21st I heard a lot of honking and went outside to find a car idling at a traffic signal. The light was green but the car wasn’t moving. Inside the driver was passed out drunk. I couldn’t wake him, either! As a crowd of laughing onlookers gathered, the cops arrived, and one patrolman reached in and gingerly turned off the car. Then they roused the guy and took him off to jail.
