Local Crime Highlights: Dognapping! Inept car thiefs!

Some highlights from the weekly report of North Beach/Chinatown/Fish Wharf crime: Monty games are back, a guy discovered a car thiefin his car, and… dog-napping, interrupted. Oh, and … it’s all about the Uniform.

” The victim opened his trunk on the 1300 block of Jones when he noticed a suspect inside his vehicle. He chased the suspect to Jackson and Jones where he waited for police to arrive. The suspect was arrested while attempting to hide under a parked vehicle. ”

Oh that’s another smart criminal.. hide under a car. no one will see you! Ha ha.

Dog napping: A guy tied his dog outside Marina Safeway, and comes out to find dog gone. Then, a few blocks away finds the suspect walking (non-chalantly no doubt) with his Boston Terrier. Grand Pet Theft.

There’s a story of a shell-game in Fisherman’s Wharf where one guy was caught ready to take 170$ cash out of the hand of a tourist… why was she holding that much money out in front of her? Having a hard time wrapping my head around this one.

Some guys are impersonating utility workers and gaining access to houses. I say it’s something about the uniform, and randy housewives. but maybe not. Watch out for “free estimates,” they say.

Just today, as I was walking to the corner of 6th and Folsom, I saw a guy running down the sidewalk, and a cop on a bike riding in pace with him on the street. I was in between them and continued walking to get out of the way. The cop pulled up in front of the curb and said “ready to go down?” and then jumped on the guy and put him down ON TOP OF HIS BIKE. You know that had to hurt the guy – ouch. As I walked up 6th I saw two people checking it out, chuckling and saying “for real, who’s gonna win? a bike going downhill or a pedestrian running?”

    That is really funny!

I forgot to add links as to how you can view your station’s newsletter. I signed up to get mine by email (I’m in the central district) so go to http://www.sfgov.org/site/police_index.asp?id=19455
And then pick your station on the left.

Go to the bottom center, and there’s “Community Updates” (varies for each station so can’t paste link here)

There should be an email-to / subscribe addresses that I found:
    southern (SOMA): policeandcommunity-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
    central (downtown/northbeach/russianhill)
    james.dudley@sfgov.org
    northern: (Fillmore/pac heights) kevin.dillon@sfgov.org
Mission: not sure, but could be: SFPDMissionStation@ci.sf.ca.us

I checked out the district maps, and found I’m technically in the Richmond district. So now I my hoodie may have to read “The Laurichio”.

This reminds me of the sheriff’s report of the Sonora paper. It is always a must-read when I go there. This weeks highlights:

6:10 a.m., Brentwood Park — A Hawk Lane caller said he found a man and a woman sleeping naked in his living room.

10:10 a.m., animal complaints — The owner of a dog left in a car parked in front of Wal-Mart was lectured about the dangers.

The city and the country have this in common: funny police reports!
