Pomp: Episcopalians to install new bishop
Marc Andrus, elected in early May to lead the local Episcopalian diocese, will be installed Saturday at San Francisco’s Grace Cathedral on Nob Hill [map].
Andrus was the subject of a profile in today’s SF Chronicle and a piece in the San Mateo Co. Times. A straight, married white man, he is considered a liberal on the issue of the ordination of LGBT people, among other issues. His election over gay candidates — seen by some as a conciliatory gesture to the larger church, which is on the verge of splitting over the issue — dismayed conservatives.
The installation ceremony in the faux-gothic cathedral should be a must-see for all liturgy fags, but the cathedral was promising seating only in the church basement. The ceremony will also be webcast live on gracecathedral.org.
(BTW, news stories differ on the spelling of his name, but I’m going with the cathedral website’s “Marc.”)
