Fire! Fire! Fire Arts Festival is this weekend

Did you miss the San Francisco Fire Arts Expo earlier this year? This weekend is your chance to see more fire at the Crucible Fire Arts Festival in Oakland.

Towering pillars of flame, cracking bolts of electricity, bodies dancing through fire – experience a four-day celebration of creation through fire & light. Come during the day to learn new skills at special Crucible workshops and classes. Return at night as the Fire Arts Arena lights up with fire performance, music, and the works of innovative fire sculptors.

The propane torches start things off tonight for a free sneak preview of the Burning Man artists. Thursday night is your chance to buy art at the auction soiree, and then the party really gets going Friday and Saturday nights. You can buy tickets online. And here is how to get there.

Want to see what this fire art stuff is all about? I highly recommend checking out Thomas Hawk‘s photos from last year’s event. Or, if you happen to have some 3D glasses around and want to see the fire coming right at you, check out some 3D photos from the SF expo. You have to experience it in person though. The sound (wooshes and bangs) and the heat of the art add much to the visual aspect of it. Plus the movement of the flames lulls you into that same trace that campfires and fireplaces put you in…times a MILLION!
